Becoming an author has been my lifelong dream. That dream is now coming true. I am the author or co-author of five upcoming books, four with the Midwest Travel Network, plus 100 Things to Do in Kansas Before You Die. The 100 Things book will be out next year.

The first book, Midwest Road Trip Adventures: Highways and Byways, will be published this fall. The Midwest Travel Network chose one of their writers to represent each state. When the South Dakota representative bowed out, three writers divided that state’s chapter. I wrote the Kansas chapter and the Black Hills section of South Dakota’s chapter. Preorder the book here. On the author dropdown menu, please choose Roxie Yonkey. The list price is $19.95.

If you own a gift shop or bookstore, please contact the publisher for bulk-order discounts and tell them Roxie Yonkey sent you.

Road trip in 12 Midwest states

Midwest Road Trip Adventures” includes road trips from all 12 Midwest states, from Ohio to Kansas, North Dakota to Michigan. The book takes travelers along some of the most storied highways and byways in the nation, including The Great River Road and Route 66. Stops include historic lighthouses along the shores of Lake Erie in Ohio, canyons in Kansas, crystal-clear springs in Michigan, Underground Railroad history in Illinois, Mount Rushmore in South Dakota, and authentic fish fries in Wisconsin’s Door County. Movie fans can visit the ballpark from “A League of Their Own” in Indiana or tour Iowa’s covered bridges showcased in the “The Bridges of Madison County.”

Because of the pandemic, people are driving to travel. And they are staying closer to home. This book will guide you to discover interesting places in the Midwest.

I started the Kansas chapter with Land and Sky Scenic Byway. where we live. I was so delighted to include my hometown and neighboring communities in this new book.

The Kansas chapter also features Glacial Hills, Route 66, and the Flint Hills scenic byways in Kansas, plus sections of Native Stone and Frontier Military Historic byway. Representing my adopted home state means so much to me.

The upcoming Midwest travel anthologies

Next, the Midwest Travel Network’s authors group will be publishing books about farm-to-fork restaurants; breweries, wineries, and distilleries; and drive-in theaters and restaurants.

Authors who live and work in the states they cover will be writing each book of this anthology. The group connected as members of The Midwest Travel Network, a consortium of writers and bloggers who specialize in the region.

“Sharing stories about the Midwest falls perfectly into the laps of Midwestern writers,” says anthology author and Midwest Travel Network co-owner Lisa Dunham Trudell. “We live here. We work here. Most of us grew up here. It’s more than just a place to us; it’s home. We know the attractions and love sharing stories about them. Who better to tell the stories of the Midwest than the people who live in its backyard?”
