Roxie on the Road celebrates one-year blogging anniversary

Today, July 14, 2020, is Roxie on the Road’s one-year blog anniversary. Where has the time gone? Wherever it’s gone, we have come a long way, baby. Here is a look back at 10 memorable moments in our first year:

Highlights at our one-year blogging anniversary

• For our first post, we visited the Butterfield Trail Museum in Russell Springs, Kan., on Western Vistas Historic Byway. The museum is an underrated attraction and you should stop by.
• Visit Mason City, Iowa, was the first destination marketing organization to link to us. Thank you! If you haven’t visited Mason City, now’s the time.
• The Battle of Punished Woman’s Fork was the last Kansas battle involving the US Army. That post led to our most-read post, The Last Indian Raid in Kansas. Oberlin Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Decatur County Last Indian Raid Museum are dear to our hearts. Pro tip: If you’re in Oberlin, visit the Landmark Inn.
• A Tale of Two Heroes: Brothers in Arms on the Fields of France is a heartbreaking story of love, bravery, and sacrifice. The Veterans of Foreign Wars posts in each man’s hometowns are named for them.
• Charming Lindsborg, Kan., Little Sweden USA, is one of our favorite places. Now Lindsborg has an even more special place in our hearts because Visit Lindsborg was the first to host Roxie on the Road. Pro tip: You’ve got to eat Lindsborg’s Swedish cuisine.
• Southern Travelers Explore in Thomasville, Ga., was our first conference as travel writers. Because of that and because Thomasville is a feast for the senses, the city will always have a warm place in our hearts. Thank you, Wherever I May Roam, for insisting that we attend. Because of the conference, we’ll be spending part of October in Fayetteville, N.C. So excited!

 

• No road trip ever will be closer to our hearts (literally and figuratively) than the byway we live on, Land & Sky Scenic Byway.
• Because Roxie is a native Nebraskan, she felt so honored when Visit North Platte linked to our Great Platte River Road post.

The most memorable highlights

Very memorable: Our first post for TravelAwaits.com: Royal Gorge in Canon City, Colo., is a great place to spend a day or a weekend. Later, they included us on the Expert Contributor list, where you can find everything we write for them.

Most memorable of all: Becoming an author through Midwest Travel Network, a lifelong dream come true. Although the books are in the early production stages, we’re part of an anthology team representing Kansas. The first book will be Midwest Road Trips: Highways and Byways. Vote for the book.

Thank you very much

We’ve come a long way, baby, indeed. But no one can succeed without help. We have a great support team. Travel With Sara, thank you for so many reasons. We love our RV-industry friends! Camp Colorado, Kansas Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds, and CampSDakota have been great to work with.
